Excellent ECG Interpretation Guide

Dr. Metkus and colleagues provide a thorough, practical workbook to teach medical students and residents alike the basics and complexities of ECG interpretation.
The book includes 150 tracings which are nicely categorized into three levels of difficulty (50 per level of difficulty). The simplest ECG is, indeed, simple, and should be a good starting point for the new learner. The 150th tracing is a complex one and makes for good learning for a more experienced learner or someone who has gone through the book from the beginning. Unlike other books, "ECG Rounds" devotes a full-sized page to each tracing so you don't have to squint in order to meaningfully interpret the tracing. The only downside is that the book is large; meant to be studied at a desk and not stuffed in a white coat. The e-version of the book (while not reviewed by this author) would be ideal; providing portability and ease of reading.
The tracings themselves cover a wide array of pathologies, with common dysrhythmias/ischemic patterns getting more attention. Each tracing comes with an interpretation as well as a helpful discussion of the clinical context and management issues germane to the tracing. Subtle findings on the ECG are shown in larger detail if salient.
When compared to the standard of ECG literature, Dale Dubin's "Rapid EKG interpretation," Metkus' "ECG Rounds" providers a practical and challenging alternative that, at the end of the day, leaves the reader more adept at interpreting ECGs.

Comprehensive and entertaining, full of pearls

This text is a fantastic addition to a genre defined by works that are either too rudimentary or too esoteric.
As the previous reviewer mentioned, the text is divided into three sections graded by difficulty, each of which includes 50 EKGs. Each tracing is presented along with a brief clinical vignette followed by a couple questions with descriptive answers on the subsequent page.
The text excels for a number of reasons:
1. Unlike the popular online resource EKG Maven, here tracings are assembled with care for the purpose of staged instruction.
2. Also unlike EKG Maven, descriptions do not only relate to the tracing, itself, but to clinical implications and global management considerations. There are tons of clinical pearls to be found, here.
3. It utilizes the strengths of physical text format, providing sufficient space for annotation.
4. EKG quality far exceeds other collections I have seen.
I believe this will be prove a very helpful resource to medical students and residents seeking a comprehensive yet practical EKG resource. I strongly recommend it.

Mimics the clinical experience

This book presents EKGs in a case based manner, which makes them much more interesting and pertinent. Though it is presented in a case based format, there is no skimping on the details of how to read an EKG and criteria for different disorders. The topics covered by these vignettes are critical for any resident to understand and recognize in clinical settings. The different levels of difficulty provide an extra challenge and contribute to mastery of EKG reading. Overall, the best EKG resource I've come across.
