Checkmate picks up with all the drama that Coca Kola left us with. Apple is trapped in the whorehouse waiting on Chico to hopefully rescue her, while being degraded more and more by the day. Even though I didn't like Apple you couldn't help but to feel sorry for her, with all that she was going through. Kola is still hurting from Cross's betrayal, but still flooding the streets with product. Eduardo (Kola's supplier) is still trying his best to get her to be his woman. Edge was up to his usual antics trying to get at Kola and trying to turn Cross against her as well. We are introduced to some new characters like Two-Face and he definitely lives up to his name. And Denise, the twins mother, is still up to no good and getting on everyone's nerves. There is still a war going on between Chico and Kola, but while Chico constantly thinks of Apple, Kola could care less. Kola's enemies are stacking up by the day, while Apple is still plotting her revenge. Will Apple make it out of the whorehouse? Will Kola lose the war against Chico? I read this book in one sitting and I wasn't ready for it to end. People are slipping and getting careless and I can't wait to see who will finally claim the throne. If you liked Bad Apple and Coca Kola then you will love this one.

Miss Santiago has done it again and continues to amaze. This is the third series of the Kola and Apple. The book picks up exactly where Koca Kola left off. I have to say it was a tough read because of the circumstances surrounding Apple. Like they say karma can come back and bite you in the ass.I cant wait for the fourth part. I hope Miss Santiago releases it soon. She is an excellent writer and I highly recommend all her books.

All I can say is wow! This book was a true page turner. I love Nisa Santiago's storylines. Full of drama and twists. A must read. I can't wait for the next installment. I'm curious to see what will come of Apple and Kola.....

You can appreciate yourself!

Recently I ran into an acquaintance. When I asked how she was doing, she immediately began complaining about her body, her thighs, how fat she felt. I looked at her. She was probably around 5'6" and weighed about 120 dripping wet. She looked terrific, but felt miserable. So many of us bodybash. This book will help you free yourself from bodybashing. You can learn that no matter what your weight or how you look you can feel wonderful. Why focus on your negatives when you have so many positives. This book can empower you to go beyond obsession with food and weight and negative thinking to a place where you can appreciate and love yourself regardless of size. And many folks will find these tools help them become their natural size. This is an excellent book as is "Overcoming Overeating" by Hirschmann and Munter.

I am a recovering anorexic and reading this book has been the biggest help on my road to recovery. Not only that but I recommend this book to any woman who has ever dieted or has ever felt unhappy with her body. this book is empowering spiritually, mentally and physically. I read this book like I read the Bible and I want every woman out there to realize that fat is not bad, food is not the enemy and that there is nothing wrong with the way you are at this very moment. If you ever do anything for yourself and your mental state of mind, read this book, you will feel so much better after the first day !

A great resource for overcoming your eating disorder.

I'd like to address the review below me by "Gym Goddess" before I get started. The plan they encourage about carrying around a food bag is part of their plan to overcome binge/compulsive eating, which is an eating disorder. It might not make sense to you, because it may not seem "healthy" or "listening to your body", but this just proves that attitudes like that are the result of buying into society's disordered eating and diet obsessed culture. In fact, the plan is the most compassionate, truthful, rational way to overcome eating disorders, which are NEVER about food.

Let me give some background of where I am because I think this places the book in the proper scope of understanding. I am recovered from Binge eating disorder, which I have had for about 20 years. I see a therapist about once a month for a good venting session as well as perspective and I'm also on an antidepressant. EDs are never about food. Eds are the result of pushing down your problems by stuffing yourself with food (or not eating it, in the case of Anorexia). This way, you can superficially stay in "food mode".. you can blame the food, you can go on a diet, you can obsess about scales, points, calories, carbs and "being healthy" INSTEAD of dealing with the problems that you have no coping skills to deal with.

"Overcoming Overeating" and "When Women Stop hating their Bodies" are companion books that help set the stage that American society and their obsessions with diets are not only detrimental to women, through pushing women to diet to conform to society's definition of beautiful (for now, a man body with huge breast implants), American society pushes women into eating disorders.

Bad body thoughts are a companion to food obsession that help you avoid your problems. Feeling "FAT" is an ED sufferer's way of trying to distract themselves from what is really going on with themselves by obsessing about their bodies.

How do you escape bad body thoughts? You become your own caretaker.

WWSHTB continues the plan given in "Overcoming Overeating" and takes you through not only unraveling your thought processes, which are twisted around food, but also shows you HOW to become your own caretaker by feeding yourself when hungry, carrying around food in case you get hungry (whichever food YOU crave) and how to deal with "mouth hunger" (which is eating when food calls to you).

In addition to showing you how to initially become your own care taker by FEEDING yourself, "WWSHTB" picks up where 'Overcoming Overeating" left off, which is taking you past the plan to overcome bingeing and mouth hunger, by showing you how to face your problems by sitting with them and looking at the problem from a different perspective. At some point, when food is no longer a friend or a lover, you'll still need to address residual issues which will occassionally cause you to fall into your old coping skill of eating. They show you how to do that!

This book has many gems in it. My favorite line is on pg. 203: "You do not need food when you have yourself." Wow! It is so simple, yet so profound. In other words, when you become your own caretaker by feeding yourself not only on demand, but also when you have mouth hunger, and when you give yourself unconditional permission to eat whatever it is you crave, and when you take all emotions away from food so that a peach is the emotional equivalent to fudge, THEN you can start to unravel the twisted logic that placed you in the path of an eating disorder. And when you develop new coping skills so that bingeing and mouth hunger go away, THEN you will have developed a new sense of self, a self that will always be there for you and where it wont' even occur to you to eat for reasons other than hunger.

And it is through that process, one which our diet-obsessed culture cannot possibly understand, you will have trumped society's irrational standards because you won't buy into them any more!

Overall good work, with holes

Capt does an excellent job tracing the 10 "lost tribes" of Israel into the European continent, citing recovered antiquities and more recent discoveries in existing collections, such as at the British Museum, covering dates up to roughly 150 BC. Likewaise, he seems to give an adequate account of the origin of the basic European "tribes" such as the Germans, the various Celts, etc., picking up their story ca. AD 600.
Where Capt falls short is in the linkage between the two eras. He has very little to connect the two--there are missing centuries in between. Well yes, he does make the linkage, but it is thin compared to the rest of the work. Just when, for example, did the Scythians become Franks? I would like to see a stronger case made for that transistional period.
However, having said that, his explanation of the migration of hte "lost tribes" is excellent. He provides solid documentation even though this book is aimed at a general "Biblical" audience rather than an academic audience of professional archeologists or geographers or such. While he does not use footnotes, the majority of his claims are noted in the text itself. He also supplies a good bibliography, various lists and tables, and other reference material at the end of the text.

Filling in the holes of history.....

Biblical archaeologists have always been the "black sheep" in historical circles. They, and their researches, are given validity only if their theories and subsequent proofs discredit the divine aspect of the Hebrew and Christian holy books. E. Raymond Capt is the single, most powerful ally of an accurate view of history, a history recognizing the Hebrew peoples as contributors to, and often catalysts of, world events.
The focus of this book is the migration paths of the twelve tribes of Israel. Documentation includes passages translated from existing and catalogued Assyrian and Babylonian tablets and an in-depth study of regional languages that track the various paths of the Hebrew peoples. Other reviewers have suggested that this book raises more questions than it answers. In truth, this book seeks to answer no questions. It seeks to bring into sharp focus the proofs that currently exist to accurately track the Hebrew peoples.
This book is a must for every student of history. Period

Where did the ten tribes of Israel disappear to? This book gives solid support for the wanderings and the destinies of God's covenant people. Don't wonder any longer. This book is excellent and provides sound supportive evidence to back up its claim. We need more people like E. Raymond Capt who are not afraid to divulge the truth.

WHY DID I WRITE THIS BOOK?

In the summer of 2012, I was an unemployed grad-school dropout and relatively new to yoga. I enjoyed going to classes, but like many other yoga students who look “different,” I always left the studio feeling a vague sense of discrimination at the hands of my teachers and fellow students. I was also strapped for cash and could barely afford the occasional drop-in class. So I turned my focus to developing a home practice. I began photographing and documenting my yoga asana practice and posting the shots on Instagram. At the time, Instagram was a fairly new kind of social media, but there was already a small community of yoga teachers and practitioners who were using the app to share their home practices. I quickly found my place in this virtual community and with it, a sense of inclusion and encouragement that I’d never felt in any live yoga class.

That’s when everything changed. I became ravenous for information beyond the physical poses I’d encountered in studio classes. I studied anatomy, the history of yoga, and the evolution of various yoga lineages. I got certified as a yoga instructor. Today, I have the incredible privilege to travel the world teaching the practice I love so much.�

As much as social media has given me, it shouldn’t be the only source of inspiration for people who don’t fit the typical yoga mold. That’s why I wrote this book. Because all yoga bodies deserve to be represented in print, not just those that are slender, female, and white. I wrote this book for every fat person, every old person, and every exceptionally short person.

I wrote it for every person who has called themselves ugly and every person who can’t accept their beauty. I wrote it for every person who is self-conscious about their body.

I wrote it for every human being who struggles to find happiness on a daily basis, and for anyone who has ever felt overwhelmed by the mere act of being alive. I’ve been there. We all have.

Yoga is for everybody and EVERY BODY. You don’t have to be thin and you don’t have to be fat. You don’t have to be a specific color or commit to a specific diet. You don’t have to earn (or have access to) a certain amount of money. You don’t have to embody anything other than your truest and most honest self in order to practice yoga. You don’t have to omit the sadness, the anger, and all of the other “ugly” emotions that flavor our lives.

You don’t have to be anyone other than yourself.

And I think it’s high time that someone shouted it loud enough so everyone can hear.

This is a great book for beginner yogis anxious about starting out and for teachers wanting to be more inclusive in their instruction. Jessamyn Stanley contributes to the development of modern yoga by discussing issues related to size, race, class, and other identities -- conversations that are missing at mainstream studios -- in a light and accessible way. She encourages everyone to be themselves on the mat and stick to yoga no matter what telling us that the miracle of serenity will happen if we commit. Highly recommended!
